Thank you for your question. This is a very good question.
In Sri Lanka harassment is a very big issue that needs to be addressed. We often see many Sri Lankans act as bystanders to such incidents. The first step we all need to take to bring about change is to take action against these perpetrators and this can start with you.
The next time a situation as such arises and if you are comfortable to help, you can then assist the victim of harassment by stepping in and asking the perpetrator to move or leave the bus. This will help the situation.
However, if you are not comfortable to step in, that is okay. You can then complain to the bus driver or conductor about the incident. If not, the victim can file a complaint with the Police and they will take the necessary action.
For future reference, you can download the app "2six4" from Google Play Store onto Android phones. This app addresses gender based violence. Based on your location, it will also show the closest police stations and hospitals in case of emergencies. The app will help locate the closest police station to where your incident took place.
I hope we have helped you.
