I have heard that having a lot of green tea can lower your blood sugar levels which can result in fainting etc. is this true?

Dear User,

Thank you for your question.

Yes, it is true that drinking too much green tea can low your blood sugar levels. This is because green tea contains a component called epigallocatechin gallete (EEG) that can affect blood sugar levels. This can prevent diabetes and can even help control diabetes for some patients. The caffeine in green tea affects this as well. However, if your blood sugar level goes too low, you can have side effects such as fainting and nausea.

The ideal thing is to not drink green tea too many times during the day. It is ideal to drink it with meals. If you are a diabetic, please monitor your blood sugar level regularly to ensure that it does not go too low or too high, as this can cause other complications.  If you do take any medications such as blood thinners and birth control pills, kindly consult with your doctor before heavily consuming green tea and adding it to your everyday diet.

I hope we have helped you.
